"Let's take a blast to the moon baby!" -Godsmack
Minnesota, known best for it's harsh winters, lack of worthwhile activity, high urbanized crime rate, and extreme sence of boredom coursing thru suburbia. Because of these things, many youths with passion for music and a skyscraping sence of 'need to' for feedback find themselves in their garages and basements driving down the price value of their homes and neighborhoods with ear candy that Kurt himself would be proud of.
And we're no different by any means.
Best friends since early on in middle school, Dan (Bass) and Rob (Guitar) began finding solice
in alot of the music that appealed to them. Taking up their instruments, that have become almost a part of them, a band began to form.
With playing roots merging back to Nirvana and an early sound, 'Four Month Blackout' was born. Countless hours of playing time, numerous recording hours that was nothing short of direct influncees of the 1992 Seattle grunge sound. With time, F.M.B searched for a more original and creative name...many we're considered, but still holding fast to their roots, 'Downer' was chosen.
Guess what, it was taken, and now another group of indeviduals are making a pretty penny =)
More cassettes recorded, in such places as a resteraunt concert room in Maple Grove, MN in May of '00, their own houses' garages and basements...some video of their early work is in existance as well.
Breaking partially away from the early roots and influences, a more indevidual and creative effort was bubbling just under the surface. Rob began messing with effects and studying in the styles of Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine and experinemting with modern thought and philosophy to give his song writing a new edge, with a writing style influenced by Jim Morrison, but we all know he'll never touch Jim's talent! Dan, progressing in bass playing wonderfully and learning at an exponential rate and being the responsible one that held onto their early work, the new edge they had been looking for was just around the corner.....
We went with the name 'Wake' for a period of time...With musical influences from everything from Deftones to Nirvana, Godsmack to Silverchair, Rage Against The Machine to Staind...and a writing style that is from a place deep and meaningfull...
Not much longer, new vocalist James Schmidt was added adding a new 'rap-rock' edge to the perspective...
Product Of Society is born and thriving.
